Teal Pumpkins - What do they mean?
Summary:
Displaying a teal pumpkin for trick-or-treaters means you have small toys, stickers or other non-food items on offer and promotes inclusion for children with food allergies or other conditions.
The Teal Pumpkin Project
This movement was inspired by a local awareness activity run by the Food Allergy Community of East Tennessee (FACET). It was originally designed to make Halloween a more enjoyable event for those who manage food allergies, but has become more inclusive. It keeps Halloween a fun, positive experience for all!
How can I participate?
Place a teal pumpkin in front of your home to indicate to passersby that you have non-food treats available
Provide non-food treats for trick-or-treaters
Spread the word! Share the Teal Pumpkin Project with your friends and family
What can I have on hand to support the Teal Pumpkin Project?
There are a few considerations when choosing which non-food items to hand out. Not all non-food treats are safe as they may contain allergens.
For example, some brands of moldable clay contain wheat. Some small toys may contain another known allergen: latex. Try to choose latex-free items.
Non-food treats provide a safe, fun alternative for children with food allergies and other conditions for whom candy may present a problem. All kids love non-food treats like glow sticks or small toys.
