A pincer grasp is when we use the index (pointer) finger and thumb to pick up small objects and place them elsewhere in a controlled manner.
A pincer grasp typically occurs at 9 to 12 months of age.
Over time, a child will use a pincer grasp for many important tasks.
Feeding
A pincer grasp is important for feeding as it allows a young child to feed him/herself small bits of food. The pincer grasp allows for a more refined and neater way of getting food into the mouth and will eventually help them in holding and using feeding utensils effectively
